Retinol: a must-have for your skincare routine.

Hello friends,

I’m sure you have probably read all about it– dermatologists are preaching that one must-have for your daily anti-aging skin care routine is retinol.

Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that increases collagen production which reduces  wrinkles and fine lines. It accelerates skin cell turnover and helps to even out and brighten your skin tone. And, my personal favorite (drumroll please) retinol unclogs pores making them appear smaller while diminishing acne.

Retinol does not work overnight. Honestly folks, nothing does. However, after using retinol for 4-6 weeks you will begin to see improvements in your skin with maximum results after several months. Just like a diet and exercise routine, consistency will give you noticeable results over time.

You can get retinol in many forms including over the counter products.  For those of you who know about my shop, I will openly tell you that there are only two products in my personal skincare regimin which I do not make– my nightly retinol being one of them. (The other item being a good quality sunscreen.)

I tell you this because it is well worth making the appointment with your dermatologist and getting the good stuff. With an over the counter product, you don’t know:

  • how much retinol it contains
  • whether it contains a form easily absorbed by the skin (there are many forms of Vitamin A–most aren’t in the appropriate form)
  • if the retinol is formulated with other ingredients that may diminish its effectiveness

And finally, you won’t get as powerful of a retinol product without that prescription. I know another appointment can be a hassle, but trust me, this one is well worth it!

So, stop cruising the net, grab your phone and make the call. 🙂

Until next time!
